Vannakum Dear Devotee,

Our Johannesburg Melrose Shree Siva Subramaniar Temple will be observing our annual Chitra Paruvam Kavady festival commencing on 26 April and concluding on 07 May 2023.

  • Flag hoisting – 26 April @18h00
  • Main Day – 05 May @ 09h00
  • Public Day Kavady – 07 May @ 09h00

Daily prayer will commence @ 18h00 on weekdays, 10h00 on Sunday and Public hoildays, 16h00 on Saturdays.

Devotees will be allowed to carry kavady on the Main Day. All kavady carriers are requested to book online on the following link as this will assist us with our planning and logistics for the day.

Kavady carriers should note that the abeshegum of the kavadies will be done the afternoon before the Main Day or Public day commencing at 14h00. Further announcements will be made during the course of the prayer festival.

The daily prayer will commence with an hawan. This will then be followed by a full abeshegum of our Lord Muruga, offering neivedium (food offering) to all our deities, offering of the deepams (light), upacharas, and mangalam/ conclusion. Supper/lunch will be served.

Our temple will be broadcasting these prayer proceedings on our Facebook media for devotees that may not be able to attend in person.

Standard covid prevention protocols must be strictly observed while on temple premises. Devotees not feeling well on this day should avoid coming to the temple and rather stay and pray at home.

All donations to offset the cost of daily obeyum prayer are welcome. Donations can be made into our temple bank account using reference “CPK2023”

Donations in kind can be dropped off with Guru at the temple during the day.
